James R. "Bob" Kauffman, 81, of 3762 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw, Ind., died at 10:05 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen, where he had been a resident for three weeks. He had been ill the past 2©u months. He was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Goshen, Ind., to the late Arthur and Hazel (Bowman) Kauffman. On March 24, 1946, he married Faye Valdine Weaver, who also preceded him in death Nov. 24, 1979. He was a longtime Goshen/South Bend resident. He was in aviation production, and worked in maintenance at the Bendix Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He graduated from Central High School, South Bend. Bob was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and a World War II veteran, participating in the defense of Midway Island from 1943-1945. He is survived by a aughter, Charlene (Dave) Vicsik of Mishawaka; two sons, Kenneth R. (Pamela) Kauffman and Roger E. (Joyce) Kauffman, both of Goshen; and a sister, Margaret (Wilbur) Mell of South Bend. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5. Burial will be at Rock Run Cemetery, Goshen.
