[N2106] Evelyn Ruszkowski
May 30, 1930 - July 29, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Evelyn Ruszkowski, of South Bend passed away on Wednesday July 29th at Hospice House where she had been a patient for less than a day. Evelyn M. Miller was born on May 30, 1930 in Millersburg, Indiana to the union of Delbert and Mildred (Shankland) Miller, who preceded her in death. Also predeceasing her was a sister, Dawn Wenrick. On August 4, 1951, Evelyn married Richard S. Ruszkowski, who survives. Also surviving are a sister, Virginia Collier of Indianapolis; and a brother, Delbert L. Miller of South Haven, Mississippi; brother and sister-in-laws, Donald and Judith Ruszkowski of South Bend, sisters-in-law, Gertrude Boembeke (Omer) of Mishawaka and Evelyn Vannoni of Goshen; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and special neighbors, (Dale & Mary Holderbaum, Niles and Carla Lamberson). A special thanks goes out to nieces, Michelle Artusi of Granger and Emily Stauffacher of Mishawaka. Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking, her specialties being pierogis and kieflies. She enjoyed her yard, especially her Gerbera Daisies and Black-eyed Susans. Evelyn loved her trips to Blue Chip. She was a member of St. Casimir's Catholic Church. Our family called Evelyn the "storyteller," as she always had a small crowd gathered around her while undergoing chemo. She guided so many people in their fight with cancer and was a very strong woman, never complaining. Her battles with cancer were over a stretch of almost 30 years. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice. The family wishes to thank Dr. Rafat Ansari, Toni and the staff for their kindness through the years of Evelyn's Treatments. A beautiful, caring and compassionate life has come to an end. May she rest in peace. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend is assisting the family. Cremation will take place with private inurnment in All Saints Columbarium at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
