Alex Lechtanski, 76, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of South 32nd Street, South Bend, Ind., died on Tuesday evening, Nov. 7, in his residence in Charlotte. Alex was a construction worker at the South Bend Ethanol Plant. He was born on Jan. 27, 1924, in South Bend, to Frances (Litka) and Joseph Lechtanski, who preceded him in death. On March 28, 1946, in Long Beach, Calif., he married Leona Mae Garlick, who survives. he is also survived by a stepson, Frank Angotti of Kansas City, Mo.; twin stepgrandsons; and by two sisters, Tillie Pilarski of South Bend and Harriet Konopinski of Lexington, Ky. Alex was a former member of the St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, and was a World War II Coast Guard veteran. Entombment services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday in Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum, with Rev. Terry Fisher, pastor of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, South Bend, officiating. There will be no visitation. The HICKEY Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson, is in charge of arrangements.
