Wanda Macalka

LAPORTE - Wanda V. Macalka, 94, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, December 15, 2016. Wanda was born July 4, 1922 in South Bend, Indiana to Walter and Jadwiga (Winnicki) Baczkiewicz. She retired after 25 years of service as a supervisor with Coddington Garment Company and was the owner of, Silk Magic By Wanda. She also made wedding cakes. On April 3, 1948 in La Porte, Indiana, Wanda married Benjamin J. Macalka who preceded her in death September 30, 2008. Wanda leaves many loving memories to be cherished by, daughters, Dorothy Macalka of La Porte, Valerie (James) Young of La Porte; a son, Joseph (Karen) Macalka of La Porte; grandsons, David (Allison) Macalka and Timothy (Ambica) Macalka; great grandchildren, Hannah, Kyle, Jacek, and Benjn; a brother, Casimir Baczkiewicz of La Porte; and several nieces and nephews. Wanda was preceded by her parents, husband, a sister, Stephanie Lindorf, and brothers, Steven and William Baczkiewicz. Wanda was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and the Sacred Heart Prayer shawl ministry. She was also a member of the Polish Falcons Nest #564 where she was a Chaplin, was a 50 year Legion of Honor member, the Polish National Alliance, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Red Cross and the La Porte Hospital Auxiliary. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 Bach Street, La Porte, Indiana, with Reverend Ian J. Williams officiating. Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. in the funeral home on Tuesday.Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, the Building Fund at Sacred Heart Parish, or Meals on Wheels.
