SOUTH BEND - Katherine A. Keresztes, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2010 in her home. She was born on November 5, 1912 to the Andrew and Katherine Balasa in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents; four sisters, Elizabeth Kaszas, Helen Kitkowski, Ann Balasa, Dorothy Haney; and three brothers, Emery, Andrew, and Frank Balasa also preceded her in death. She was a graduate of South Bend Central High School. On May 1, 1942, as Katherine A. Balasa, she married Floyd C. Keresztes at St. Stephen Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. He died on July 8, 1971. She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Niedbalski of South Bend, IN; Donna Keresztes Young of South Bend, IN; two sons, Gerald W. Keresztes of South Bend, IN; Paul F. (Lynn) Keresztes of St. Cloud, FL; five grandchildren, Debra L. Niedbalski of South Bend, IN; Michael P. (Sarah) Niedbalski of South Bend, IN; Amy Keresztes of Orlando, FL; Laura (Chad)Weldon of Jacksonville, FL; Jenna (Alex) Nagy of St. Cloud, FL; and two great-grandchildren. Katherine was a member of Christ the King Parish since 1957. She was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society; Padre Pio Prayer Group; Women's Civic Planning Association of South Bend and TOPS Club. She also cooked for the Corpus Christi Parish Bingo and numerous church functions. Katherine was an avid seamstress, artist, gardener, and nutritionist, and was devoted to Blessed Brother Andre and St. Anne. Thank you, mom, for blessing us with your beauty, grace, and constant prayers. A heartfelt thanks to The Center for Hospice and Christ the King Parish for their support. Visitation will be from 9 - 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at Christ the King Catholic Church.
