SOUTH BEND - Helen T. Sigety, 86, of South Bend, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, in her home. She was born on March 3, 1925, in Fertoszentmiklos, Hungary, to the late Lajos and Helen (Molnar) Nemeth. She came to the States from Hungary at the age of 23, after being in concentration camps for five years. In 1943 she married George Magyarvari, who preceded her in death in 1971. In 1973 she married Joseph Sigety, who preceded her in death on September 5, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her son, George B. Magyarvari Jr. (Barbara) in 1981; two brothers, Laslo and Nemeth; and by her mother-in-law in 1961. Helen is survived by her stepson, Louis (Janice) Sigety of Naperville, IL; her grandchildren, Rebecca Rios and Andrew Magyarvari, both of Wichita, KS; her step-grandson, Daniel Sigety of Naperville, IL; and by four great-grandchildren, Endria and Cody Rios, and Christian and Bela Ian Magyarvari. Mrs. Sigety was the owner of George's Grocery Store and also worked at Ben Franklin and Things to Do Craft Store. She was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society there. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. A memorial service for Helen will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, in the funeral home, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 Saint Johns Way, South Bend, IN 46628.
