Upon graduation from Elston High School in 1943, he enrolled in the U.S. Army. He was transferred to England, and after D-Day served in the quartermaster corps. He initiated an early computerized payroll, billing and routing system at South Bend Freight. After retirement, he did volunteer work for Logan Industries on their computer systems. After Norma's death, Chester continued to care for his son Michael in their home, although Chester himself suffered kidney failure a few years later.
