Dr. William E. Martinov, 86, of South Bend, passed away at 8:54 pm Monday, July 19, 2010 at home. Dr. Martinov was born on June 23, 1924 in Salt Lake City, UT to the late Melivoj and Frieda (Mayer) Martinov. On February 26, 1960 in South Bend, he married Lucy (Wappenstein) Martinov, who survives. He has lived most of his life in the South Bend area. Dr. Martinov retired as a surgeon after 50 years of practice. He also served his country honorably in the United States Army. In addition to his wife, Lucy, Dr. Martinov is survived by daughters, Pam (John Traub) Martinov of Falls Church, VA, Jeri L. Martinov of Albuquerque, NM, Gail L. (Troy) Lobdell of Santa Barbara, CA, Ann Marie Martinov of Santa Barbara, CA, Terese Marie (Robert) Kowalski of Newtown, CT, and Lisa Marie (Allan) Eicher of Leo, IN; son Dr. William E. (Kathleen) Martinov, Jr., of Northport, NY; extended family Richard Threet of South Bend and David Crothers of South Bend; nineteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; mother in law, Elizabeth Wappenstein of South Bend: and sister in law, Mary Alice Burgess of Sun City, AZ. He was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the Martinov family with arrangements.
