SOUTH BEND - Marie A. Tarnow, 78, of South Bend, passed away at 4:50 AM Tuesday, July 3rd, at Hamilton Grove Nursing Facility in New Carlisle after an extended illness. Mrs. Tarnow was born on April 8, 1934, in LaPorte, IN, and had resided in the South Bend area since 1969, coming from LaPorte. On April 5, 1953, in LaPorte, IN, as Marie A. Green, she married Donald G. Tarnow, who survives. Also surviving besides her loving husband are three daughters, Cheryl A. (Floyd) Poor, Karen L. Tarnow and Lori J. (Jeff) Plank, all of South Bend; a son, Dale R. (Tammy) Tarnow of Evansville, IN; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Scot) Ward, Nichole (Matt) Carpenter, Jason (Sarah) Barrett, Marci (Mike) Gentry, Anthony (Kim) Hardiman, Angela Hardiman and Dean Kizer. Also eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved and cherished. A brother, Clarence E. (Sharon) Green Jr. of LaPorte, IN. Marie was preceded in death by her loving parents, Clarence E. and Bessie B. (Hitesman) Green Sr., and by a granddaughter, Lyn M. Kizer. Mrs. Tarnow retired from Sear-Roebuck & Company in 1984 after many years of service as a secretary. Marie loved sewing, crafts, and was handy at everything she did. Most of all, she loved being with her family and grandchildren. She was a graduate of LaPorte High School, Class of 1952, and a member of the Lydick United Methodist Church. She will be dearly missed by her loving family, her church family, and all who had the opportunity to know this wonderful lady during her life journey. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the Riley Children's Hospital, 702 Barnhill Drive, Room 5900, Indianapolis, IN 46202-2189; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. Visitation hours will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday, July 6th, and from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM Saturday, July 7th, at the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road / Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 7th, with Pastor Jim Toole officiating. Services will be held at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The HANLEY and Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Tarnow family.
