SOUTH BEND - Ferdinand W. Borsch, 86, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009, in his home. He was born on November 4, 1923, to the late Ferdinand and Margaret (McCarthy) Borsch in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents, one sister, Florence Camile Kline, and two brothers, Carl Dean and Albert L. Borsch, also preceded him in death. Mr. Borsch retired in 1989 from Northern Indiana Children's Hospital where he worked as an engineer at the power plant for 33 years. On June 3, 1970, he married Dolores (Kaminski) Racine in South Bend, IN. He is survived by his wife, Dolores of South Bend, IN; two stepsons, Randy (Nancy) Racine of Noblesville, IN, and Greg Racine of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, Scott (Katie) Racine of Bloomington, IN, Todd Racine of Noblesville, IN, Ame (Jeff) Marshall of Granger, IN, and Tony Racine of Mishawaka, IN; one great-granddaughter, Jenna Marshall; one brother, Emil Ward Borsch of Lakeland, FL; two sisters-in-law, Joan Borsch of South Bend, IN, and Clara Borsch of Mishawaka, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Ferdinand was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was a prisoner of war for 161/2 months in Germany. He was a member of American Legion Post #50, South Bend Eagles Lodge #435, and was a former member of the South Bend Turners Club. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2009, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
