SOUTH BEND, IN - Pamela D. Malec, 67, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Thursday after a courageous battle with cancer. Pamela was born April 13, 1953 in LaPorte, IN to the late Benno and Frances (Rollins) Bargholz. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Susan Heiden and Judith Otter. On July 15, 1978, Pam married the love of her life, Steve Malec. He survives along with their children, Andrew D. (Emily) Malec and Kelley Malec; granddaughter, Anastasia Krepel-Malec; brother, Kevin (Tammy) Bargholz; best friend, Cathie Brown; dog, Lucy, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In her younger years, Pam was a competitive baton twirler. She graduated from LaPorte High School in 1971. Pam was initiated into Kappa Kappa Gamma Mu Chapter on October 14, 1972, then went on to earn her Bachelors of Science in Education from Butler University in 1975; she completed her education with a Master's of Science in Education from IUSB in 1990. She was also a member of the NEA-SB, ISTA, and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Pam taught in the South Bend Community School Corporation until retiring in June 2015. Pam was an avid Butler basketball and Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed arts & crafts, reading, bowling, traveling, all things Disney, and she really loved her dogs. Pam loved spending time with her family, most of all her granddaughter, Ana. Visitation for Pamela will be Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10:00 am Monday, January 25, 2021. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.
