Anthony W, attended a ball game the night before he died and was hit in the foot with a baseball. He died of a blood clot the next morning.
Later source: Caroline A. Ball, daughter of (Angela M. Hosinski) Ball, who is the sister of Anthony W. Hosinski:
Anthony W. was actually playing baseball in the backyard of his home with some other children. Anthony was taking the role as the catcher. My mother, Angela M. (Hosinski) Ball told me many times that she was in the house with her mother, Apolonia Pearl (Egierski) Hosinski when the event happened. In those days, they didn’t wear any protective equipment on their bodies. My mother related to me many times that Anthony died of blood poisoning because the baseball hit him in the ankle bone of his foot. This caused an infection that spread throughout his body. Dr. Bolka (the family physician), took him to the hospital but the hospital doctors couldn’t save him because the infection had spread to his lymphatic system. The modern day terminology of what ended Anthony W. Hosinski’s life is known as sepsis, an infection of the blood. Anthony W. Hosinski was my uncle of whom I had never met because of his death at such a young age. My mother also informed me that his body was laid out at home instead of going to a funeral home. Such was the custom in 1924. Anthony actually died on my birthday, June 7, in 1924. I was born on June 7, 1948.
