Jacob was born in Ege, Indiana, to the very large Kostielney. His paretns were polish immigrants that married, farmed, and he was one of sixteen children born to Mr. and Mrs. Kostielney. He and brother, Steven Kostielney, moved to Detroit, Michigan, to pursue work at the Ford Moter plant, as many aspiring workers did in this era. Jacob married Josephine and they had several children of their own. He practiced his families devout Catholic faith throughout his own life and lived in Detroit until the time of his death.
