LAPORTE - Josephine Laskowski, 91, of LaPorte, died at 4:30 PM on October 18, 2009, in her residence. Mrs. Laskowski was born July 4, 1918, in Gary, Indiana, to Anthony and Mary (Wojcik) Kankowski. On November 26, 1938, in Gary, IN, she married Bert G. Laskowski, who preceded her in death on November 5, 2000. She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and was self-employed in farming with her husband. She was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Gary, IN, class of 1936, attended Purdue North Central and studied languages, belonged to the Senior Center Bridge Group, was a Y.M.C.A. member, and enjoyed traveling and photography. She leaves behind two daughters, Lorraine L. (Mark) Wedow of LaPorte and Elaine C. (Chauncey) McKearn of Thousand Oaks, CA; three sons, Carl D. (Kathy) Laskowski of Chesterfield, MO, Clifford W. (Jane) Laskowski of South Bend and Donald M. (Patricia) Laskowski of LaPorte; 11 grandchildren, Megan, Alisa, Eric, Aaron, Jack, Chris, Jay, Joey, Heather, Jamie and Greg; and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Andrew; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. David Kime officiating. A prayer service will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at 5 P.M. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 3 to 8 P.M., and Thursday 8:30-9:30 A.M. in the Essling Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pine Lake Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 "C" Street, LaPorte, IN 46350; or to the LaPorte Y.M.C.A., 901 Michigan Avenue, LaPorte, IN 46350.
