May 15, 1945 - Oct. 11, 2018
MISHAWAKA, IN - Karen (Szucs) Ukele, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 11, 2018 surrounded by her family. Karen was born on May 15, 1945 in South Bend, Indiana to Paul and Maxine Szucs, who preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 54 years, Barry Ukele. Together they had four girls: Carmen Ukele (Tim Wolfe), Carla Price (Dave), Coleen Manspeaker (Dave), and Cara Hudson (Ted) all of Mishawaka. Cara preceded her in death in 2008. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Colin (Christina), Nathan (Lindsey), and Adam (Erin) Wojtysiak; Wesley (Ashley) Holbert, Sara Hudson; Taylor and Alex Price; Trevor, Kaley, and Trace Manspeaker, as well as six great-grandchildren, all of Mishawaka. Two sisters are also left to cherish her memory, Norma (Don) Toth of Texas and Ceal (Don) Sherwood of Florida. Karen had wonderful memories of travelling and visiting with her sisters. Siblings who preceded Karen in death were Paul Szucs (Diane), Sandy Szynski, and Tom Szucs. Karen was so proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them all. There wasn't a day that went by that she didn't talk to at least one of her girls, if not all of them. She was famous for calling each family member on their birthday to very badly sing to them. We surely will miss these calls. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and helped with The Walleye Club in Mishawaka. She also enjoyed reading, garage sales, and her penny slot machines. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21, from 1-4 pm at The Walleye Club, Mishawaka. A Celebration of Life to honor Karen's memory will be held directly at 4 pm at the club with a dinner to follow. Chapel Hill will be assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to The Walleye Club for the MWA Ukele Scholarship. Our family will miss her presence forever, but know she is reunited with her daughter, Cara, and loved ones. We will rejoice in memories until we all meet again. To leave an online condolence or sign the guest book, please visit www.chapelhillmemorial.com. Published in South Bend Tribune on Oct. 18, 2018
