Bernadine M. Lesniewicz, 90, of Arrowhead Circle in South Bend, Ind., passed away in her home on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004.

Mrs. Lesniewicz was born on March 2, 1914, in South Bend, to John and Martha (Turczynski) Sopczynski. She retired from the University of Notre Dame in the housekeeping department in 1980.

On Sept. 26, 1936, Bernadine married Elgin J. Lesniewicz, who preceded her in death on March 9, 1982. A daughter, Patricia Ryback, preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 2003. Sisters, Evelyn Grabarek, Theresa Sopczynski, and a brother, John Sopczynski, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann (Matthew) Jackowiak of South Bend; grandchildren, Linda (Kevin) Kloentrup of Florence, Ky., Lori (Jim) Finefrock of Indianapolis, Ind., Michael (Sara) Jackowiak of Elkhart, Ind., Lisa Jackowiak of Beverly Hills, Calif., Janet Soos of South Bend, Jeffrey Soos of South Bend and Kenneth Soos of South Bend; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Maggie Kloentrup, Kaitlyn, Danielle and Samuel Finefrock, Madeline and Ryan Jackowiak, and Kyle Horvath; a sister, Alice Fanti of Mishawaka, Ind.; a brother, Benedict Sopczynski of South Bend; and a son-in-law, James Ryback of South Bend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 23, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be held at 4 p.m.

Mrs. Lesniewicz was a member of St. Adalbert Parish, the Rosary Society of the church, and the former Westside Polish Women's Democratic Club where she served as a past president.
