Cecilia Margaret Wasowski, 91, spent most of her life in the South Bend area. Cecilia Margaret "Sally" Wasowski, 91, of North Vernon, died at 8:43 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon. She lived in South Bend most of her life and moved to North Vernon in 2000.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend. Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kaniewski Funeral Home in South Bend. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Cemetery. Arrangements were by Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Mrs. Wasowski was a 1934 graduate of the former Central High School in South Bend and attended the South Bend College of Commerce for secretarial studies. She had worked in dress sales at Bonwit-Teller in Chicago for 10 years, and also as a secretary at Oliver Tractor Corporation, Wilson Sewing Company and Wheel Horse Garden Tractors in South Bend. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in North Vernon and a former member of Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend. She enjoyed singing in church choirs, gardening, reading and traveling.
Born Jan. 18, 1916, in South Bend, she was the daughter of Stanley and Albina Kruzynski Radecki. Surviving are three sons, James Leon Gierzynski of Niles, Mich., Terrence Floyd Gierzynski of North Vernon and Philip John Gierzynski of Riverside, Ill.; a stepson, the Rev. Ronald Wasowski of Portland, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Pat Spychalski of South Bend; a brother, Anthony Radecki of South Bend; two sisters, Rita Czyzewski of South Bend and Helen Potthast of Pocahontas, Ill.; three grandchildren, Eric Gierzynski of South Carolina, Patrick Gierzynski of Buchanan, Mich., and Sherrie Schuh of New Jersey; four stepgrandchildren, Christopher Spychalski and Michelle Spychalski of South Bend, Elisabeth Hegmann of Raleigh, N.C., and Hugh Partridge of North Vernon; and a great-grandchild, Sam Schuh of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Leon Gierzynski on April 12, 1954, John Rozek in 1972, and Leo Wasowski in 1985; a brother, Thomas A. Radecki; and three sisters, Harriet Radecki, Dorothy Wilczewski and Clara Galvez.
