January 1, 1927 - February 9, 2022

Arlene Joy Molnar, 95 years old, passed away at 8:17 a.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Arlene was born on January 1, 1927 in Mishawaka to the late William and Ines (Leighty) Burk. She has lived most of her life in South Bend. On June 19, 1948 at the First Methodist Church in Mishawaka, Arlene and Louis A. Molnar were united in marriage. Louis preceded her in death on January 2005 after 58 years of marriage. Also preceding in death were six sisters, Ethel, Marie, Mildred, Esther, Corrine, and Rheita; and one brother, Ralph.
Arlene attended Beager Elementary and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1945. She attended many of the class reunions and luncheons. While in high school she loved to go roller skating at the Box Skating Rink and Playland Park. Her and her future husband would go there often. During that time, she worked for a short time at the Peanut Shop in South Bend, then worked the “Victory Shift” at Ball Band until after the war. After high school she attended South Bend Business School and Comptometer School. After school, she went to work for Oliver Tractor in South Bend. In the early 50’s Arlene settled down to raise a family and later worked part time. During this time, she worked for Stone Container Co., South Bend Toy, XL Kitchens in Goshen, H&R Block and K-Mart to name a few. In the mid 60’s she went to work for Bendix as a bookkeeper/accountant in payroll. Arlene retired from Bendix in the early 90’s. In retirement, Arlene travelled to Europe 8 times, toured Alaska and Hawaii. With the Bendix Salary Retirees Club she traveled to Canada many times to shop. After 2005, she traveled the USA with her son, Randy. They attended many Studebaker Shows and swap meets. Over many years she made many friends and enjoyed the many beautiful cars. Arlene also loved going to Florida to see family until the last of her siblings passed away in 2016. Arlene’s hobbies included ceramics, crafts, sewing, knitting, and keeping beautiful flower gardens. She was a very creative person who did well with everything she did. She also belonged to the Bendix Salaried Retirees Club, MHS Alumni, Red Hats, through Louis, the UAW Local 5 and the Studebaker Club. She also enjoyed decorating family graves over Memorial Day from Mishawaka to Kewanna, Indiana with her son Randy. In retirement, she played bingo for many years all over town. In the last several years, she played bingo at UAW Local 5, Bendix Local 5 and St. Adalberts. Between bingo and the red hatters, she loved the activities with her friends. In the end, Arlene had many friends and was loved by all. Often, she travelled with her dog, Hershey. Together, they were known by all. She always had a kind heart, always offer a helping hand and a big smile to all. She worked hard all her life and was an independent creative person. She always felt in later years she lived a very rich-rewarding life. As they say she was a people’s person who loved everyone and will be missed by all. Thank you to everyone at Memorial Hospital who helped Arlene in her “hour of need” on the 10th and 12th floors. The comfort the nurses gave to her will always be remembered. Thanks also to Dr. Ralph and Dr. Vida. “Thank You….Now I must go”.
