SOUTH BEND - John F. Stancati, 78, residing in South Bend, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, in his home. He was born January 18, 1935, in Ambridge, PA, a son of Anthony & Anna (DeMarco) Stancati, and had lived in South Bend since he was 12 years old. John proudly served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from Indiana University. Mr. Stancati was the former Director of South Bend Water Works. He was a member and former State Chairman of the Indiana American Water Works Association, St. Joseph River Basin Commission, served as Treasurer of the Indiana State Democratic Party, was former St. Joseph County Treasurer, member of the South Bend Chamber of Commerce, founding member of the Summit Club, South Bend Redevelopment Commission, and a member of the South Bend School Board. He served as a Consultant for the South Bend Water Works, and was currently working part-time as a Bailiff for the Juvenile Justice Center. On July 12, 1958, in South Bend, John was united in marriage to Joan G. Fenska. He is survived by his loving wife Joan of 54 years. Also surviving are three daughters, Cathryn (David) Rowland of Tulsa, OK, Susan (Gregory) Miller of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Nancy (Christian) Stancati-Langheinrich of Minneapolis, MN. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Holly, Alex, Hannah and Jake; and three brothers, Guy (Rita) Stancati of South Bend, IN, Ross (Norma) Stancati of Kalamazoo, MI, and Anthony (Sally) Stancati of Chicago, IL. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Monday. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mr. Stancati may be offered to Water for People, 100 Tennessee Ave., Denver, CO 80209.
