Indianapolis - 85, died October 30, 2021 at Roudebush Veteran's Hospital. He was born on April 4, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to Joseph A. and Genevieve (Cyman) Koczan. He was their only child. He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School in South Bend. He served in the Army from 1954-1956. Joseph married Bonnie L. Poznanski on November 12, 1960 in St. Steven's Catholic Church in South Bend, and she preceded him in death. He was retired from Ossip Optometry in Indianapolis. He moved our family across the United States, building and creating optical labs and was well known in the Optical Industry. Over his almost 50-year career, he worked for Bausch & Lomb, Dr. Tavel, Edward H. Schmidt & Sons, just to name a few. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and a previous member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Indianapolis, where a mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2021. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021 and at 10 to 11 a.m. Friday November 5, 2021 at St. Monica's. urvivors include his children, Christopher Alan (Sheryl Lynn) Koczan, Joseph Thomas (Eileen Clare) Koczan, Sandra Ann Koczan; grandchildren, Briana, Rachael, Sara (Cole Hoing), Michelle, Christopher II, Alyssa Koczan; nieces, April (Todd) Pontius, Dawn (Kent) Craig. Many "adopted by love" children and grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to any of the Veteran's Charities or Alzheimer's Foundation, which Joseph supported as often as he could. Inurnment will be at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. Arrangements by Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park North. www.flannerbuchanan.com.
