SOUTH BEND - Peter L. Toth, 85, passed away Saturday in Morningcrest Nursing Home. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; brothers, Emil (Suzanne Gibbons) Toth and Joseph (Kim) Toth. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, in the Zahoran Funeral Home. Family and friends may call 6-8 Wednesday in the funeral home. Peter L. Toth
July 3, 1925 - June 18, 2011
SOUTH BEND - Peter L. Toth, 85, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, in Morningcrest Nursing Home. Peter was born on July 3, 1925, in South Bend, to John and Margaret (Abraham) Toth. After graduating from Riley High School, he worked for Bennett and Ferrigan Machine Shop and later for South Bend Tool & Die as a tool-and-die machinist. On October 13, 1953, he married the former Ruth Megan, who survives along with two brothers, Emil (Suzanne Gibbons) Toth and Joseph (Kim) Toth, both of South Bend, and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was a member of St. Anthony DePadua Catholic Church and its Rosary society. He also was a member of the Polka Mass Singers which performed in five states. Peter also played the gut bucket in a band called the Polka Nuts, and loved to have jam sessions in his basement. He also performed at many local nursing homes much to the enjoyment of the residents. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Peter and his wife Ruth were deeply religious and also visited Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, twice. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Visitation for family and friends will take place from 6-8 on Thursday in the funeral home. Cremation will follow with burial of his ashes in Highland Cemetery at a later date.
