ALGONQUIN, Ill. - John R. Miers, 64, of Algonquin, passed away peacefully of natural causes Tuesday, March 8. John was born June 30, 1951, in Elkhart, Ind., and was a graduate of Elkhart High School class of 1970. He was proceeded in death by his father, Charles Miers. He is survived by his mother, Joyce (Truex) Miers; sister Cheryl (John) Young of Woodbury, Minn.; brother Jim (Jen) Miers of Roscoe; brother-uncle Bill Miers of South Bend, Ind.; nephews Paul Young, Ben Miers and Anthony Miers; and numerous special uncles, aunts and cousins. He was a decades-long Chicago-area businessman. He had a passion for the University of Michigan football team, but John loved nothing more than to play and be around the sport of golf. He was a true lover of children and animals. John had an extraordinary sense of humor and an amazingly positive outlook on life. He had a huge heart and was greatly involved in charitable organizations. He gave his all in everything he did. A celebration of John’s life was at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 226 W. Lexington Ave., Elkhart. Interment has taken place in St. John’s Columbarium. A reception followed at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children in John’s memory at ww.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/​en/​donate.
