Pauline Szymczak

SOUTH BEND - Pauline B. Szymczak, 95, residing in Fountainview Place, Mishawaka, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Saturday in Fountainview Place. Mrs. Szymczak was born on November 4, 1913, in Southern Illinois. On November 26, 1931, in South Bend, IN, she married Stanley B. Szymczak, who preceded her in death on May 31, 1967. An infant son, Lawrence P. Szymczak, who was born on June 17, 1945, and passed away on June 25, 1945, and Joseph F. (Patricia) Szymczak also preceded her in death. Mrs. Szymczak is survived by her sons, Edward S. (Levada) Szymczak and John I. (Darline) Szymczak; 10 grandchildren, Larry B. (Ruth) Szymczak, Francis "Franky" P. (Regina) Szymczak, Sherry Lynn Elsee, David I. (Desiree) Szymczak, Kathleen Brecht, Donna M. (John) Troyer, Barbara Cribbs, Craig (Lisa) Szymczak, Joseph F. (Sandy) Szymczak and Edward S. (Tara) Szymczak Jr.; 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Szymczak was chief baker at Robertson's Department Store's Tea Room, from which she retired, and she continued her love of baking by making wedding cakes at home. Mrs. Szymczak was also an avid fisher-woman. She volunteered at KO-Op 65 Food Bank for over 30 years and was monumental in collecting food and getting donations. Her true gifts in life were her family and taking care of others; even the family pets will miss her. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 5, at 10 a.m. in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Visitation will also be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association , 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604-1242.
