ELKHART, IN - On the afternoon of February 17, 2021, John George Kallimani, 90, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at home of natural causes. John was born on March 17, 1930, in Van Houten, Colfax County, New Mexico to George John and Katina (Roupas) Kallimani. John is survived by his wife, Dolores, his brother, Chris Kallimani, his sister, Evangeline Briscoe, his daughter, Helen; sons, Michael, Trevor, and George, 10 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen Comer, Phyllis Leonakis, Connie Dunias, and Evanthia Zimmerman, brothers James Kallimani and Constantine (Smiley) Kallimani, and one grandson, Nicholas Kallimani. John served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed overseas in West Germany. John ‘The Greek' owned McKinley Terrace Fruit & Garden Center in Mishawaka from 1955 to 2016. He and Dolores have been longtime residents of the Jimtown community. An Open House to celebrate John's life will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2021 from 2pm to 7pm at McKinley Garden Center, 13333 McKinley Highway, Mishawaka, IN. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Christians in Commerce, South Bend chapter; St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church, Valparaiso, IN; The Philoptochos Society of St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church, South Bend, IN; and the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine, 635 Barnhill Drive, Room MS 5035, Indianapolis, IN, 46202.
