Richard “Rich” Behnke, 52, of Mishawaka, Indiana passed away on May 19, 2019 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center after a long battle with diabetes related health issues. He was born on October 9, 1966 at Lemoore Naval Base in Lemoore, California to the late Richard Walter and Kathryn M. (Sanders) Behnke Sr. Rich served honorably in the United States Army and was one of the most patriotic men who loved anything about the military. He earned a Bachelor Degree in teaching from Ball State University and a Master Degree from IUSB in social work before becoming a licensed social worker for the State of Indiana. Rich is survived by his daughter, Geneva Behnke of North Liberty; his sister, Anne (Stevie) Greenleaf of Buchanan, Michigan and brother Linh (Nga) Tran of South Bend. He also leaves to cherish his memory; two nieces, Ashley Harman and Shelby Harman; and great niece, Savaya Clifton all of South Bend and a host of cousins that loved him dearly. Rich had numerous passions in life including Notre Dame, the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, politics and anything about the military. He also loved to play cards with his family and watching his daughter Geneva perform in musical theater. Funeral Services for Rich will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home and one hour before the funeral service on Saturday.Any memorial contributions may be given to John Glenn Theater Program, 201 John Glenn Dr., Walkerton, IN 46575.
