Richard (Dick) C. Szweda, 87, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Monday January 28, 2019 in Healthwin Specialized Care. He was born on August 18, 1931 in South Bend to the late Chester and Genevieve (Nowak) Szweda. On May 18, 1957 in Christ the King Catholic Church Richard married Mary June Wittmer who preceded him in death on January 23, 1998. He is survived by two daughters; Noreen (Steve) Hostetler of South Bend, Indiana, and Marianne Szweda of South Bend, Indiana; four grandchildren, Jessica Hostetler, Rachel, Jillian and Joe Szweda, one sister, Dorothy Dyer, and one brother, Gene Szweda. Richard was predeceased in death by one son Brian Szweda, one brother, Jerry Szweda, one nephew Mark Szweda, and one sister-in-law Monica Szweda. Richard was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and worked for Studebaker, Whirlpool, Wheelhorse, and retired from Notre Dame Power Plant. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, American Legion Post 357, and Member of Moose Lodge, Elkhart, Indiana. Richard was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday February 4, 2019 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at a later date in Highland Cemetery.
