MISHAWAKA - Mary Ann Barrell, age 86, of Mishawaka, IN passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Mary Ann was a beloved homemaker and worked at Goldblatts for several years. Mary Ann was born on November 3, 1931 in South Bend, IN to Theodore and Clara (Wisniewski) Rydzynski. On November 23, 1950 at St. James Episcopal Church, she married Fred Robert Barrell Jr., who preceded her in death in 2004. Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Ellen (Dale) Mais of Marcellus, MI and Beth (Tom) Swinford of Smithfied, UT; son, Michael (Carol) Barrell of Columbia City, IN; grandchildren, James Mais, Maryellen (Brian) Mais Fleming, Christopher Barrell, Geoffrey (Chelsey) Barrell, Bryan Downs, and Aubrie (Landen) Hardy; six step-grandchildren, Travis (Deb) Swinford, Heather (Ryan) Sallee, Matt (Chasidy) Swinford, Jared (Megan) Swinford, Aaron (Shana) Swinford, and Koy Swinford; great-grandchildren, Willow, Claire, Bradyn, Ellie, and Winnie; and sister, Janice (George) Houk of Urbandale, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents and late husband, Fred. Mary Ann was one of the founding members of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in South Bend and later a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Mary Ann was a leader in the Lutheran Women's Group for many years. She spent many early mornings volunteering at Memorial Hospital with her husband. She loved to dance her entire life. Music was one of her greatest pleasures, including singing in the church choir. When asked, “What do you love most of all, Mom?” she replied, “Trees, music, and of course, my children.” A Funeral Service for Mary Ann will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Home River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615.
