COLUMBIA CITY - Chester J. Majewski, 90, passed away at 3:52 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009, in Whitley County Hospital, Columbia City, IN. Chester was born March 21, 1919, in South Bend, to the late John and Stella (Formanek) Majewski. On May 1, 1946, he married the love of his life, Helen Alexander, who preceded him in death on August 20, 2006, after 60 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Walter, John, Bert and Bill; and by a sister, Gladys. Surviving Chester are his children: daughter, Kathy (Brad) Volheim of Granger, IN, and sons, Thomas Majewski of Columbia City, IN, and James Majewski of Columbia City, IN; grandchildren, Sean, Shannon, Lori, Brandy and Tara; and six great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Samantha, Matthew, Mallory, Robbi and Carly. Chester served in the United States Army during WWII. After working 26 years at the Bendix Corporation, he retired in 1976. He was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, the Moose, American Legion #357, Z.B. Falcons, M.R. Falcons, and the VFW on Linden. He loved fishing, hunting and going to casinos. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. A Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the Mass. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Gardens, St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society , 601 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
