Lois J. Gnass, 86, of South Bend passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Lois was born on in Michigan City, IN to the late Corby and Florence (Teets) Burnett. As the former Lois Burnett, she married George Gnass. George passed away on April 21, 1961. Her companion Kenneth DeWar who passed away on February 17, 1998, along with her two brothers Frank and Kenneth Burnett and two sisters, Tressie Milcarek and Maxine LeVake, also precedes Lois in death. Lois is survived by her seven children, George (Sharon) Gnass of Mishawaka, IN, Cynthia (Larry) Wilt, of Mishawaka, IN, Georgia (John) Tibbitts, of South Bend, IN Barbara (Victor) Barone of Mishawaka, IN, Linda Culp of Mishawaka, IN William "Bill" Needham of Mishawaka and Jerraly (Roger) Stark of La Porte, IN. A brother Robert (Beverly) Burnett of Michigan City, IN also survives Lois. Lois was a loving and caring grandmother to sixteen grandchildren and twenty -one great grandchildren. Lois was a waitress who worked in restaurants in the Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana area. She later was employed at the Mishawaka School Corporation working in the cafeteria. Lois and Kenneth were managers of Mobile Home Parks through out a few of the selected states of the United States. Lois enjoyed playing cards. Lois was a member of the Living Stones Church in South Bend, IN. Lois was the main provider for her family since the death of her husband George. She made sure that the family did not go without, also putting her family's needs before herself. Lois's major enjoyment and strength was her family. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 16th from 4-8pm at the Bubb Funeral Chapel 3910 N. Main St Mishawaka. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 1:00pm with one- hour visitation prior, with Sam Barrington officiating the service at the funeral home. The family requested to meet at the Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City, IN., for the committal service Lois is buried with her companion Kenneth DeWar in her family's BURNETTE PLOT. (Although her last name was not DeWar.)
