BREMEN - Eleanor Helen Lula, 95, formerly of South Bend, passed away at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, in her residence in Bremen. Eleanor was born on March 1, 1912, in South Bend, to the late Clem and Sophie Szczypiorski. On November 5, 1928, she married Bert Lula, who preceded her in death on November 14, 1961. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Bert J. and Larry; and two sisters, Dorothy Ernsberger and Elsie Lundquist. She is survived by her three children, Patricia (Jack) Borsodi of Bremen, Sharalyn (Ted) Kubisiak of South Bend and James "Ziggy" (Barbara) Lula of South Bend; 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Kathy Lula and Mary Ann Lula, both of South Bend; and by her brother, Clem "Butch" (Irene) Szczypiorski of North Liberty. Eleanor, "Grandma Lula," worked for Neighbor Care Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician for the past 17 years. She was a member at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Terre Coupee, and the VFW 9820 Ladies Auxiliary. Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Terre Coupee. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
