SOUTH BEND - John Robert Leszczynski, 86, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015, in his home surrounded by his family. John was born November 24, 1929, in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Florance (Babicz) Leszczynski. John was also preceded in death by a son, James S. Leszczynski; sisters, Louise Janowiak and Lucille Gadacz; brother, Frank Leszczynski; brothers-in-law, Chester Gadacz and Richard Janowiak; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Leszczynski. On October 7, 1950, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, John married Rita (Jedrzejewski) Leszczynski. Rita survives along with sons, John E. (Jean) Leszczynski of South Bend and Joseph J. (Colleen) Leszczynski of Walkerton; daughter, Janet M. Pauszek of Franklin, IN; daughter-in-law, Nancy Leszczynski; sisters, Evelyn Gadacz and Marie (Walter) Stefaniak; and brother, Stanley (Claudie) Leszczynski. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren: Brandon, Ryan, John Jr., Kimberly, Christopher, Leigh and Robyn; and two great- grandchildren, Brooklyn and Cooper. John worked as a South Bend Police Officer for 32 years before retiring on June 4, 1992. He loved golfing, fishing, and especially enjoyed mowing his lawn. Most of all, John enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Visitation is 2-7 pm on Monday, December 21, 2015, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 5 pm. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 am on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN 46619.
