MISHAWAKA - Joseph Adam Piatkowski, 75, of Mishawaka, passed away at 5:10 pm Tuesday, September 9, 2014, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Joseph was born on August 2, 1939, in South Bend, the son of the late Adam and Julia (Bieganski) Piatkowski. On August 6, 1966, he married Betty Houghton. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Betty, and their children, Charles (Julie) Piatkowski and Beth (David) Gerstbauer, both of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Adam, Casey, Carley, Elise and Vincent; and a sister, Sylvia Buszkiewicz of New Carlisle, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Loretta Mink. Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1963. He was a member of the VFW Post 360 and the PNA Post 83. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm Friday, September 12, 2014 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 11:00 in the funeral home. Rev. Jason Freiburger will officiate. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
