SOUTH BEND - Gladys T. Szklarek, 93, passed away at 12:56 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2010, in Hospice House of Elkhart. Gladys was born on June 2, 1917, in South Bend, to the late Symon and Zofija Piatkowski. On October 7, 1939, she who he preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Stan (Cathie) Szklarek of South Bend; four grandchildren, Shanan Szklarek of Dallas, TX, Jeff (Abby) Szklarek of Geneva, IL, David (Melanie) Szklarek of Granger and Steve (Jennifer) Szklarek of Granger; seven great-grandchildren; and by her brother, Joseph Piatkowski of Mishawaka. Gladys was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. She loved gardening and watching her grandkids. "Jesus was her best friend." Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Elkhart County, 2901 E. Bristol St., Suite C, Elkhart, IN 46514.
