PASADENA, TX - Mary Theresa Patus Laanan, a resident of Pasadena, Texas of 50 years passed away on October 3rd, 2016 at the age of 94 as the oldest person in the history of the Patus family. She was born in South Bend, Indiana on May 13th, 1922. She was lovingly called “Pat” by her Texas friends. She was also known as “Mariska” by her parents, “Chubb” by all family and friends in South Bend, and “Geena” by her grandchildren. She grew up in South Bend the youngest of 6 children born to Sándor (Alex) Patus & Ágnes Bajusz who immigrated from Ada, Hungary in 1912. In her early twenties she enlisted as a SPAR in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, stationed in Miami, Florida. On August 22nd, 1953 she married Catalino “Lonnie” Laanan with whom she shared a love of ballroom dancing. They were married for 33 years. Lonnie and Pat moved to Pasadena in 1955. Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Pat was always the life of the party and her smile could light up any room. Pat is survived by her brother Rudy Patus and his wife Janet, her sister Eleanor Jankowski, daughter Zhna Rizvi and her partner Samala, her grandchildren, Parisa and Amir Mansoori and Elias and Hannah Rizvi and great grandson Tristan Mansoori. Pat has filled the role of mother and grandmother to many children throughout the years. Cesar Seymour filled a devoted son role in her life and his family and children have brought great joy to her throughout the years, Ruth Seymour, Sandy Perez, Jackie Seymour, Cesar X. and Alex Seymour. Preceding her in death were husband Lonnie ; brothers Alex Patus Jr., Charles Patus, Nándor Patus; sisters Ruby Horvath, & Elizabeth Fouts; half brothers Paul Patus & Joseph Siderits; step brothers Géza Kocsis & Joseph Kocsis Jr. A memorial service will be held at Convenant Baptist Church on Caroline St in Houston on Saturday October 22nd, 2016, at 2pm. A memorial service will also be held in South Bend, Indiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to one of the following: DKMS where the goal is to delete blood cancer from which Pat suffered for almost 40 years, MD Anderson Cancer Center or Hospice of Houston.
