William DeWolfMr. William Eugene DeWolf, 89, of LaPorte, died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at his home. He was born Sept. 30, 1923, in LaPorte to Austin and Agnes (Corbally) DeWolf and was a lifelong resident of LaPorte. Mr. DeWolf retired from Howmet Industries as a shipping clerk after 30 years. He had also worked at Allis-Chalmers in LaPorte. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, a former usher and member of the Holy Name Society of St. Peter Church, a member of LaPorte YMCA Senior Aquatics Program, a LaPorte Drum and Bugle Corps member, and a former member of American Legion Post 83. He was a school crossing guard for many years at the St. Peter School crossing. He was an avid Cubs and Notre Dame football fan. On Sept. 29, 1951, in LaPorte, he married Rosemary Minich, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Christopher (Bonnie) DeWolf and James DeWolf, both of LaPorte; and two granddaughters, Angela (Samuel) King and Annette DeWolf. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and James DeWolf. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, LaPorte, with Rev. Dennis Teles officiating. Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Wednesday, Jan. 2, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, LaPorte, with military honor guard graveside services.
