SOUTH BEND - C. Marcella Kovatch, 89, residing in South Bend, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 in Memorial Hospital. She was born May 7, 1927 in Henderson, KY to the late O. Carroll and M. Christine (Alexander) Hazelip. On November 4, 1950, Marcella married Joseph E. Kovatch, who preceded her in death on June 21, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lowell C. Hazelip. Marcella worked in the office at Oliver Corporation and South Bend Community School Corporation until she retired in January 1993. She was a member of Bethel Tabernacle. Marcella is survived by her daughter, Barbara “Chris” Perry of South Bend; stepdaughter, Jorene Pierce of South Bend; sons, J. Edward (Susan) Kovatch, Jr. of Milton, GA and Stephen C. (Angela) Kovatch of Willow Spring, NC; grandchildren, Tyler (Caitlin) Kovatch of Orlando, FL and Connor (Emily) Kovatch of Willow Spring, NC; one sister, Barbara A. Hazelip of South Bend; one sister-in-law, Virginia Hazelip of Dunedin, FL; and one brother, Malcolm C. (Marilyn) Hazelip of Nashville, TN.Funeral services for Marcella will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, in the Bethel Tabernacle, 71378 Ironwood Drive, Niles, MI 49120. Pastor Matthew Bair will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until service time on Thursday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Marcella may be donated to the Bethel Tabernacle.
