SOUTH BEND - Betty S. Templeton, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:12 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009, in Hospice House, South Bend. She was born on February 20, 1921, to the late Harry Sr. and Sallie (Brown) Starkey in Cates, IN. Betty had lived in South Bend since 1941, coming from Stone Bluff, IN. Along with her parents, one sister, Bobbie Brimberry, four brothers, Samuel Blayne Starkey, Harry Starkey Jr., William Starkey and Joe T. Starkey, and a son-in-law, James Kajzer, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Templeton retired from Versal, Inc., in South Bend, IN, after several years of employment. On June 3, 1939, as Betty Starkey, she married Forrest Lex Templeton in Terre Haute, IN. He died on October 6, 2007. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Kajzer of South Bend, IN, and Cheryl Templeton of Pompano Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Steven Kajzer of South Bend, IN, and Michael (Jennifer) Kajzer of Sussex, WI; one great-grandson, Alex Kajzer of Sussex, WI; and a sister, Jayne Elliot of Covington, IN. Mrs. Templeton was a member of Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church and was a Teamster Local #364 retiree. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, September 28, 2009, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009, in Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, 2404 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009, in Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, 2404 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN 46628; or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
