SOUTH BEND - Ella M. Retek, 89, of South Bend passed away on Thursday, June 30th at West Bend Nursing Center with her son by her side.She was born on September 17, 1926 in South Bend, IN to the late Julius and Rose (Egyed) Pinter. On January 25, 1947 in South Bend she married Alexander R. Retek who preceded her in death on January 15, 2011. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Jaskowiak and Betty Dezamitz. Ella is survived by her son, David A. (Diane) Retek of Granger, IN; a sister, Elaine Kleva of South Bend, IN and several nieces and nephews. She retired from Bendix Corp. as an Executive Secretary after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Polish National Alliance Lodge #83, South Bend, IN. Ella loved traveling the world. Her favorite trip was to Rome where she went to the Vatican. She also enjoyed reading paperback Western novels. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and all who knew her during her life journey. There will be no visitation or services. A Private Family Entombment will take place on Tuesday, July 5th at Highland Cemetery Mausoleum. The family request memorial contributions be made to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614. SOUTH BEND -- Ella M. and Alex R. Retek of 25823 Wild Berry Drive are celebrating their 60th anniversary. Alex Retek and Ella Mae Pinter married Jan. 25, 1947, at St. Stephen Catholic Church. They have one son, David A. of Granger. Mr. Retek was employed as a body design draftsman for Studebaker Corp. and retired as chief deputy for the Portage Township Trustee. Mrs. Retek retired as an executive secretary after 35 years with the former Bendix Corp. They are South Bend natives.
