PLYMOUTH - Irene M. Xaver, age 94, of Plymouth passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side. Irene was born on November 22, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana to Camiel and Mary (DeWispelaere) Pickavet. She was a graduate of South Bend Catholic High School in South Bend. On September 11, 1943 Irene married Francis Xaver. He preceded her in passing on May 31, 2003. Irene and Francis owned Xaver Grocery Store on West Jefferson Street from 1945-1955. Irene later worked for Coldwell Banker, Felix & Associates, and then for Robertson-Cook Insurance Agency. Irene was a faithful member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Plymouth. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Janice of Washington, D.C., Eloise (Frank Geiselhofer) of Colorado Springs, CO, Lynda of Athens, AL, Gerard (Sharon) of South Bend, IN, Luann (Mike Falkowski) of Plymouth, IN, Joe Xaver of Loami, IL, and Jeanine (Larry Hatcher) of Plymouth, IN; also surviving are Irene's sisters, Rose Connolly of Williston, VT and Mary Lou Hausske of Kingman, AZ. Irene was further blessed with thirteen grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Irene and Francis also fostered children through Catholic Charities. Irene is preceded in passing by her parents; her husband; her sons, Bill and Paul; her brother, George Pickavet, her sisters, Margaret Bergman and Dorothy Kelly; and her stepmother, Josephine. The Van Gilder Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements for the Xaver family. A Funeral will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the St. Michael Catholic Church, 611 North Center Street, Plymouth, Indiana 46563 at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. John Korcsmar officiating. Burial will follow in the New Oakhill Cemetery in Plymouth. A time of visiting with the Xaver family will be on Friday, June 1, 2018 in the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street Plymouth, Indiana 46563 from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m, with Rosary recited at 6:30p.m. The Xaver family requests memorial contributions in honor of Irene be made to the St. Michael Catholic Church.
