SOUTH BEND - Joan C. Pluta, 72, of South Bend, IN, passed away following an illness, at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Milton Home in South Bend. She was born on January 10, 1938 to the late Thaddeus S. and Veronica "Verna" H. (Rutkowski) Pluta in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with her parents; one brother, John Pluta also preceded her in death. Ms. Pluta worked at Uniroyal, Koszegi's, Key Plastics, and Clark's Cleaners. She also cooked for weddings at both St. Hedwig and Corpus Christi Parishes for several years. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Pennycuff of South Bend, IN; brothers, Chet (Kathy) Pluta of South Bend, IN; Thaddeus R. (Bridgette) Pluta of Fayetteville, NC; sister-in-law, Nancy Pluta of Granger, IN; 12 nieces & nephews; and 24 great-nieces & great-nephews. Joan was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish in South Bend. She loved her family, and her passion was bird watching, playing bingo & card games (especially Hand and Foot) and her trips to Vegas. She will be missed by all who loved her. Her wonderful smile, sense of humor, and loving heart is how she will be remembered. A Memorial Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Mathews, C.S.C. officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
