Nigel “Paul” Sindell, 68 years old, passed away at 6:21 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Paul was born on December 4, 1953 in Carmarthen, Wales, UK to Albert and Elizabeth (Thain) Sindell. Paul was 4 years old when he came to the United States.
Paul was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother who currently resides in Cassopolis, MI. Paul is also survived by his companion of 24 years, Karen Swanson of South Bend; three grandchildren, Erik Miller whom he helped raise, Matthew Megyese and Amanda Megyese; brother, Ian Sindell of Cassopolis; niece, Danielle (Lance) Antisdel of Cassopolis; and two uncles, John (Jacqueline) Thain of Goshen and Howard (Denise) Thain of Elkhart.
Through the years, Paul worked at various plants in the RV industry as a painter and for the Department of Natural Resources around Lake Michigan. On the weekends, Paul enjoyed watching Notre Dame Football and watching westerns on TV. Paul has always enjoyed outdoor activities. In his teen years, he was into Motocross Racing and helped to build dune buggies to ride along the beach. Later, he joined local bicycle tours to see different areas of our surrounding communities. Paul loved to ski. He was a member of the Viking Ski Club and went on many ski trips to Europe, Canada, Colorado, and Michigan. In the summer, there were many camping trips with friends. You could always find him behind the grill or cooking over the open campfire. One of his specialties was ribs, which was a family favorite. Other things you might find him doing was fishing on Lake Michigan or paddling his kayak on local rivers and lakes.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Paul will be held at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022. Friends may visit with Paul’s family two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Paul Sindell may be donated to Camp Mariposa, Oaklawn, Attn: Kari Tarman, 330 Lakeview Drive, Goshen, IN 46527.
