================
The family of Evelyn O. Runyan is broken-hearted to announce that she has passed away from this world on Thursday, March 12, 2020 in her home. They are rejoicing knowing she has been met at the golden gate by Jesus and her loved ones that have preceded her in death; mother, Faith Snodgrass, father David Platz and step father James Snodgrass; sisters Mary Ann Wilson and Patricia Mitchell; brothers Robert “Bob” Platz and Larry Platz; son-in-law Don Stephens. Above all she has taken the hand of her grandson, William “Billy” A. Packer whom passed at the young age of 15. Shouts of joy were heard when she saw her life long friends, Eilene Snyder and Hazel Witrowski and special cousin Marylee Olson. Evelyn married Eugene (Rube) Runyan on January 4, 1958 in North Liberty, where she has worked hard caring for him for 62 years. Evelyn has been a loving mother to seven daughters; Sandra L. Packer, Sharon Stephens, Jackie (Curt) Klingerman, Vickie Hill, all of Walkerton, Debi (Ed) Aldrich, Beth (Rock) Smith of North Liberty, Terrie (Ted) Gorski of Hannah and son Steve (Leann) Runyan of Ft Wayne. Evelyn shared all her love with her twenty grandkids, thirty-seven great grandkids, and two great- great grandsons…this gave her much pride in having 5 generations. Evelyn was born May 1, 1932 in North Liberty where she attended school with her nine siblings, four of which had preceded her in death. She is survived by sisters; Joyce (Chuck) Eaglebarger, Ruth (Marvin) Ryall of Osceola and brothers; David (Helga) Platz of Mishawaka and John Platz of Florida and sister-in-law Barb (LeRoy) Severson from Niles, Mi; dear cousin Sis Vires of MI and numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn worked in her garden which she took much pride in, she canned and froze garden vegetables up until the last two years. She always got excited about the first strawberries of the spring and blueberries of the late summer. Evelyn was known for the pies she baked with the fresh berries as well as all the other fruits as they came into season, her apple-slices and her year round pumpkin pies were the best. If or when Evelyn found spare time she also enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting and even enjoyed a friendly game of Euchre and especially a few games of Old Maid with her beloved Braxton and Olivia. Evelyn was a member of North Liberty Church of Christ and her family would like to thank Tim Stewart for the prayers and visits and special thanks to Marge Kronk for the many visits that lifted Evelyn’s spirits. “Mom passed in her home that she loved surrounded by her family whom loving cared for her and will be greatly missed by all who knew her”
