[N15539] Martha Rose Bara
Jan. 23, 1915 - Nov. 23, 2014
CARROLLTON, TX - Carrollton, TX - Martha Rose Bara passed away 2 months' shy of her 100th Birthday on November 23, 2014 in the loving arms of her children. She was a very giving person, even after death through the gift of anatomical donation to the University of Texas. Martha was born a first generation American on January 23, 1915 in South Bend to the late Boleslaw and Theodora (Strychalski) Kapczynski. Polish was her first language. She had a brother, Henry Kapczynski and loved being Aunt Martha to his children; Thomas Kapczynski, Cheryl Molnar and Kathleen Fack. Martha was widowed by her husband James Peck of South Bend. She later married Raymond M. Bara of South River New Jersey who also preceded her in death. Survivors of Martha are her children, Michele (Bara) Zinser of Fountain Hills, AZ and John Bara of Carrollton, TX; faithful daughter-in-law, Joanne Quig Bara; Grandchildren, Brittany Bara Pivovar, Cameron Bara, Emily Zinser and Lauren Zinser; and countless grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Martha enjoyed drama and dance at St. Hedwig's High school, where she graduated in 1932. She worked as a seamstress and dance instructor until attending Business College to learn typing, stenography and bookkeeping, which led to her position as executive secretary to Mr. Sibley of the Sibley Foundation then later a secretary for the St.
Anthony's rectory in South Bend. Martha will be remembered for her love of God and deep faith and trust in Him, she loved to read (with a particular fondness for science fiction) and listen to classical music and opera. She was a huge fan of baseball (devoted to the Cubbies, then, later in life, the Washington Nationals) and Notre Dame Football. Most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a big heart, cared deeply and worked hard her whole life and sacrificed much for others. She enjoyed food, laughing, playing games and loved winning. Martha was alert and bright till the end of her life and brought joy and awe to all who met her. She is greatly loved and missed. Martha will be inurned in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, IN at 2:15pm on Friday, October 28, 2016. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
