NEW CARLISLE - Isabella (DeGroote) Frey, 95, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor, New Carlisle. Isabella was born on March 17, 1912, in South Bend, Indiana, to William and Anne (Vitkowski) Riffel. She retired in 1974 from the former Easy Heat Corporation in New Carlisle after 27 years of service.

As Isabella Riffel she married Andrew DeGroote, who preceded her in death in 1970. She then married Raymond Frey, who preceded her in death on June 28, 1990. Sons, Andrew and Robert DeGroote, sisters, Josephine Mejer and Dorothy Czarnecki, and a brother, Sylvester Riffel, also preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughters, Dolores DeGroote of South Bend, Indiana, Joyce (Pierre') Terrault of New Carlisle, Indiana; a son, John M. (Sharon) DeGroote of New Carlisle, Indiana; a stepson, Thomas (Joyce) Frey of Granger, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Mary Walz of LaPorte, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; a beautiful number of great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at noon Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, in St. John Kanty Catholic Church, Rolling Prairie, Indiana, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana.
