Mary "Marina" Christos, 90, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:45 p.m., Sunday, March 4, 2012 in The Hearth at Juday Creek. Mary was born April 19, 1921 in Manchester, NH to Milton and Vivian (Batalis) Psalidas, soon moving to South Bend, near the Christos family. As a teenager Mary worked at The Philadelphia Restaurant and Candy Store. She graduated in the Class of 1940 from South Bend Central High School. As an adult she worked at both the Bendix Coporation and South Bend Lathe Works as a Comptometer Operator. On June 6, 1954 in St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, as Mary Psalidas, she married Christy A. Christos who preceded her in death on July 13, 2005. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Helen (Charlie) Neos and Stella (George) Mosko. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Dr. Geoffrey) Rogers of Granger, IN; her loving grandson, Taylor Christos Skidmore; one sister, Gloria (James) Kallimani of Merrillville, IN; one brother, Julius (Betsy) Psalidas of South Bend, IN, Sister-in-Law Elizabeth (Joe) McNulty of South Bend, IN, and two Step-daughters; Sylvia (Joe) Leverett of Indianapolis, IN and Christyne McCain of South Bend, IN. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2012 in St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Trisagion Service will be held at 5:00 p.m.
Mary was a life-long member of St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church participating in the Greek Festival and bake sales and also sang in the church choir. She was a member and past President of the Daughters of Penelope and Good Samaritans and was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital.
