SOUTH BEND - Ernest C. Prentkowski, 94, of South Bend, IN passed away at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in Southfield Village, South Bend. He was born on February 4, 1917 in South Bend, IN to Stanley and Hattie (Brekus) Prentkowski. On February 21, 1942 in Seattle, WA, he married the former Gertrude Smith, who preceded him in death on March 29, 2008. Mr. Prentkowski is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Jeanne Prentkowski of South Bend, IN; two grandchildren, Sandy and her husband, Cordell Woodiwiss of Osceola, IN and Bob and his wife, Kelly Prentkowski of North Liberty, IN; four great grandchildren, Tori and Taylor Woodiwiss and Mitchell and Tyler Prentkowski. He is also survived by two sisters, Loretta Futa and Jeanette Jasinski both of North Liberty, IN and a brother, Marion Stachowiak of South Bend, IN. Mr. Prentkowski lived most of his life in South Bend. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He retired in 1980 from Raco as the manager of the Tool Engineering Dept. after thirty-seven years of service. Mr. Prentkowski was an avid golfer and was an extensive traveler, traveling all lower forty-eight states. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Private graveside services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Private family visitation will take place at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S.
