SOUTH BEND - Raymond H. Cukrowicz, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:05 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, in Southfield Village. Raymond was born on January 12, 1924, in South Bend, to Harry and Helen (Latowski) Cukrowicz, and was a lifelong resident. He retired from the Bendix Corporation in 1984 after 42 years as a tool & die maker. Survivors include five nephews, Tom (Margaret) Deranek, Ralph (Sue) Deranek, Brian (Marsha) Cukrowicz, Noel (Katharine) Cukrowicz and Paul (Rabecca) Crow; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alice Deranek; two brothers, Ben and Ernie Cukrowicz; and one niece, Gerri Danilewicz. To honor Raymond's request, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012, in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Raymond was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and was a member of the U.A.W. Local #9. He was a WW II Army veteran who received the American Theater Asiatic Pacific Theater W/2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation W/2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was a past member of V.F.W. Golden Hill Post #8748 and American Legion Pulaski Post #357. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, Inc. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
