SOUTH BEND - Leonard L. Niemier, 90, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 in the Sanctuary of St. Paul's Nursing Facility. Lenny was born October 10, 1927 in South Bend to the late Roman and Cecelia (Michalski) Niemier. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Vic Niemier; sister, Alice Jerzak; a loving godchild, Karen Dembinski; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Cichowicz. On May 16, 1964 in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Lenny married his loving wife of 54 years, Clara (Sikorski) Niemier. She survives along with their daughters, Ann (Mike) Karwoski and Laurie (Mark) Oliver; granddaughter, Julia Oliver; step-granddaughter, Nikole Oliver-Scherer; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Amelia, Bryant, & Austin Meyer; sister, Emily Cichowicz; godchild, Mike Revell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lenny proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired from Art Mosaic & Tile where he was a tile setter for 50+ years. He was a member of the PNA 83, Chain O Lakes Conservation Club, American Legion Post 357, Bricklayers Union, and the St. Joe Club. Lenny enjoyed bowling, euchre, gardening, and ice fishing. He loved his garden as much as he loved a good bargain. He was an avid sports and Notre Dame fan. Lenny was a hardworking, caring, Christian man who loved his family very much. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much joy.
Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, May 3, 2018 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Veteran's or a charity of your choice. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
