=============
Waymon B. Dycus
Dec. 1, 1924 - Aug. 24, 2011
MISHAWAKA - Waymon went to be with the Lord on Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. He was 86 years old. He lived his last years with his daughter Becki and son-in-law Mike. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, and grandfather. He was extremely fond of his two new great grandbabies. He wanted them around all the time. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a medic serving on the U.S.S. Below. He started out in the Marines, but he was too skinny, so they sent him to the Army. The Army then sent him to the Navy. After the war he was a beautician for a while finally ending up working at Ball Band (Uniroyal) until he retired in 1983 after working there for 40 years. In the last years he lived part of the time in Florida and part time in Indiana. He loved being in Florida during the winter. He was an avid bocce ball player during the day and played cards at night. His friends in Florida always joked about how a man who said he couldn't see always seemed to get the red or green bocce ball so close to the white one. His love for the Lord was evident in the life he led. He was Sunday school teacher, mentor and a person who loved seeing others come to know the Lord and serve the Lord. He was a member of Twin City Baptist Church for 40 plus years, then Lighthouse Baptist Church and currently a member of New Life Baptist. He was the first born son to Johnnie and Bernice Dycus. He was born in Dyer, Tennessee in 1924. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Becki (Mike) Witkop, his brother, Gentry Dycus and step sister Dorothy (Howard) Schnaare. He had six grandchildren, David (Alyson) Witkop, Jon Witkop, Beth (James) Gerald, Rhonda Ice Christian and Jacquelyn Ice. He had six great grandchildren and one on the way. He had numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Bernice, his step-mother Bertha Dycus, Iris his wife of 49 years, his other daughter, Linda, and granddaughters, Cynthia and Cheri. Viewing and funeral services will be held at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, with visitation on Friday, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mike Poole officiating the funeral services, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the church in his name.
