SOUTH BEND - Florence E. Gromski, 96, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday August 4, 2016, at Hospice House, South Bend. She was born on April 17, 1920, to the late Carl and Lillian (Demczewski) Krol. On January 17, 1941, as Florence E. Krol, she married Henry S. Gromski, who preceded her in death on February 8, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Caroline Berendt, a brother, Joseph Krol and a sister-in-law, Norma Krol. Florence is survived by her three daughters; Geraldine L. (Joseph) Gorny and Karen S. (Michael) Kurtis, both of South Bend and Carol M. Gromski of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Robert Gorny, Kathleen Matuszak, and Mark, Gary and Kristofer Kurtis; three great- grandchildren, Emily and Bradley Matuszak and Joe Kurtis; and by a brother, Edwin Krol. Mrs. Gromski worked as a cook supervisor for Crumstown and Jackson Schools and she was the co-owner of Joe's Liquor from 1969-1980, before retiring. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church since 1953. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday August 5, 2016 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a wake service will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday August 6, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545-5234 or to www.jdrf.com.
